Garbage & Recycling

 

Garbage is picked up on Tuesdays. All garbage must be in your container and bagged. $3.00 stickers may be purchased at the City Office for occasional extra garbage. Containers are available in the following sizes:

 
  • 30-gallon container - $10 per month (plus tax)
  • 60-gallon container - $14 per month (plus tax)
  • 90-gallon container - $18 per month (plus tax)
 

Residential recycling is collected every other Tuesday. Each residence is issued one free recycle bin. Beginning August 12, 2008, Montrose will begin the Single Sort recycling program. Click here for a flier with recycling guidelines.

  • Newspapers, magazines and cardboard. All must be clean and dry. Flatten and place into paper bags or recycling bin.
 

These items are Recyclable and can be put together in your bin:

 
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Metal beverage and food cans
  • Plastic bottles with narrow necks
  • Paper from news, magazines, junk mail, dry non-coated food paper boxboard, small flat pieces of corrugated cardboard.
 

The following items are Non-Recyclable:

 
  • Garbage, food waste, diapers, paper plates
  • Meat or dairy plastic or paper packaging
  • Wax or plastic wrap or bags
  • Freezer food packaging
  • Plastic deli, product, or take-out packaging and utensils
  • Plastic storage bags and wrapping film
  • Formed or peleet styrofoam packaging
  • Window glass, ceramic or dishware, mirrors, lightbulbs
  • Aerosol and paint cans
  • Motor oil and gasoline containers
 
  • Tree branches, grass clippings, leaves, and garden waste may be dropped at the city compost site (at the wastewater plant on the rear tarmac area). The site will be open from 6 pm to 8 pm on Wednesdays through the end of September, and Saturdays from 8 am to noon through the end of October. The wastewater treatment facility is located at 800 Buffalo Avenue South (south of Highway 12 on County Road 25).
 

The following recyclable and hazardous materials are accepted at the Wright County Compost & Recycling Facility by appointment only and for a fee:

  • Paints, stains, varnishes, thinners
  • Lighter fluid
  • Aerosol cans
  • Adhesives, caulk, putty
  • Cleaners, strippers, inks
  • Caustics, acids
  • Pesticides, herbicides
 

Recyclables:

 
  • Aluminum, tin, plastic
  • Glass, clean cardboard
  • Scrap metal, oil, batteries
  • Oil filters (if more than 10)
  • Antifreeze (if more than 5 gallons)
  • Major appliances
  • Tires
  • Fluorescent bulbs
  • Ballasts
